Role Descriptions

A top level description of the roles can be found below. The descriptions are purely to give an idea of what is required for each role - to help people understand the aim of each role.

The actual role can be developed as necessary in order to achieve the goal of the task.

Area network co-ordinators
An Area Network Co-ordinator will typically be asked to act as a point of contact for Neighbourhood Watch schemes local to the area. The primary role of an Area Network Co-ordinator is to ensure a good level of communication with all schemes in the local area, thus enabling important local knowledge to be shared, as well as to help raise awareness and deal with issues as necessary. The aim is for a two way dialogue to be established between schemes. 

The Area Network Co-ordinator will also be the main point of contact for the locality Community Engagement Officer. 

The Area Network Co-ordinator is also invited to attend Executive Committee meetings held by the Suffolk Neighbourhood Association.

Toolkit Development Champion
This role requires someone to develop the “Toolkit” for our scheme co-ordinators. Typically, the toolkit comprises useful “ day to day” documents that can be used by co-ordinators to help them run their scheme. With the emergence of new types of crime such as Modern Slavery, Terrorism, Child sexual exploitation, knife crime and the like, we now need to offer these specific types of guidance and support, through presentation and documentation, in order that schemes can identify the tell tale signs of these new types of crime, together with the steps to be takenin order to deal with such issues. 

Event planning and engagement team
We need a person or persons to work with the constabulary, and in particular Safer Neighbourhood Teams and Community Engagement Officers, to create an annual event engagement programme, whereby Neighbourhood Watch and the Constabulary can jointly attend public facing events in the community. The role will require the event planners to organise and seek attendance from NW schemes local to the event - in order to provide the necessary support to run the event.

We require a person or persons to be a point of contact for media engagement. This will include sending out press releases and articles as necessary, and will also include publicity of any engagement events as may be organised by the Event Planners.  

Social Media account management
An administrator (or Administrators) are required to post regular news and information from our Social Media accounts [Facebook and Twitter]. This will involve looking at current and relevant issues and stories that have a direct impact on Neighbourhood Watch in Suffolk.  

Town and Parish Council liaison

Engagement with town and parish councils is being developed with the aim of entering a partnership agreement (more likely a memorandum of understanding) to help promote neighbourhood watch across the county, especially to those areas that currently do not have any active NW schemes.
