Beccles

Beccles Safer Neighbourhood Team covers a large number of parishes in the area.

Suffolk Constabulary also provides a Community Engagement Officer, dedicated to working with the local community, and can be contacted direct by email.

The Suffolk Neigbourhood Watch Association has allocated these parishes into two area networks - identified as follows:

Beccles, Worlingham, Ringsfield, Mutford, Barsham, North Cove, Barnby, Weston, Ellough, Sotterley, Willingham St. Mary, Shadingfield, Redisham

Please note that there has been a recent increase in theft from motor vehicles East of the County, particularly Lowestoft, Kessingland and Beccles.

Commercial vans and cars have been broken into and tools stolen, usually during the hours of darkness and mainly in residential streets and on driveways. Suffolk Constabulary have had about 20 reports since the beginning of the month. Whilst nearly all are from commercial/works vans there have been theft from a couple of cars.

TO REDUCE THE RISK OF BEING A VICTIM PLEASE FOLLOW THE BELOW TIPS.

  • Always lock all doors & shut windows, physically checking doors are locked.
  • Do not leave any items on display.
  • Park in a garage or secure area where possible.
  • Park with the doors against a wall.
  • If you park on your driveway consider installing motion activated CCTV.
  • Be particularly aware when unloading tools/materials from your van.
  • Remove tools from the van if possible.
  • Remove copper piping from storage tube on the van.
  • Register tools for free at www.immobilise.com.
  • Mark using Selecta DNA (www.selectadna.co.uk/ ) alternatively mark tools with a permanent marker with your postcode/initials.
  • To increase the security of tools, you can bolt either a cage or box to the base of the van which should be secured with a sturdy close shackle padlock.
  • Setting an alarm or immobiliser will make it more difficult for the offender.
  • Consider upgrading locks/fitting additional protection.

  • Always check your van/tools before heading off to work/site.
